First, "Life of Pi" trailer is out
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454876/
(I have my Fall Movie Lineup started; Cloud Atlas in October, Pi in November, The Hobbit in December)
Just finished Island of the Blue Dolphins which I read with my kids. Cool. Interesting. But freaking sad. Jeepers. Just when you think you have it bad, try having your whole family, everyone in the village, leaving you behind. With wild dogs!
My son is now reading The Age of Miracles, the new, hot YA title out there. I read it first. It is pretty darn good. As a scifi fan, one could find fault. As a YA, coming-of-age fan, it's excellent. Different way of covering familiar topics. Recommened for your kids too.
Tried, TRIED, to read Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I am about half way through and think I have to give it up. I like it. I do. It is simply very intellectual reading and either my summer brain can't handle it, or I am not as interested as I thought.
Read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn which everyone is raving about. Thought is was wicked clever. Lots of twists and turns. Hated the last few chapters. I'll explain if you ask, otherwise you'll have to read it for yourselves. And The Night Circus by local gal Erin Morgenstern. It was good. She does a fantastic job with descriptions. Such a vivid imagination that she transferred brilliantly to the written word. Her characters weren't perfect, I could find fault there, but definitely worth a read.
And of course I read Geography of Bliss which I enjoyed, but I can't talk about it yet!
Summer reading I didn't get to (yet?):
Defending Jacob, Cloud Atlas, The Leftovers, and The Prisoner of Heaven.
Happy Reading!
