Enough of that.
Summer reading. Wondering if you all have started "Cutting for Stone" yet? I feel like I kind of lucked out because I've already read it, so I've been able to carry on with my own reading choices. I did read "The Weird Sisters" by Eleanor Brown. A good book. The perspective and voice are different than I'm used to so even though it wasn't anything revolutionary, I found it refreshing. And, like "Major Pettigrew.." there were no abducted children, no selfish egotistical women, no depressing hard labor. The characters had their trials but (trust me on this, Kris) everything is OK. Just a nice, new book. Something worth reading.
Currently, I am reading "Game of Thrones". Yeah yeah. A fantasy book. But seriously, there is politics, treachery, incest, murder, religion, supernatural foes, heroes AND heroines. And I'm only 100 pages into it!
I'd like to get my hands on Ann Pachett's new one, "State of Wonder", after this, and we have it at the library, but it's been a popular selection. I wouldn't feel right taking it out of the hands of a patron. We'll see. There is also "Matched" (the YA phenomena) and "The Paris Wife" about Hemingway's first wife . I love Hemingway. Really. Go back and read something. The guy was a master. Sigh.
So, I hope you all are finding time to read a few pages here and there. I look forward to the next meeting. Until then, happy reading!
