Guernsey Literary... etc.
Wow. What a book. It was an "easy" read in the sense that I flew right through it and didn't want to put it down. So many fascinating characters in such a well developed, complicated world all put into the simplest, enjoyable narrative. Plus, I learned a lot about the history of the time. Perhaps too much at times, but the horror and violence of the war made the characters that much more alive. I particularly enjoyed the female characters, Julia and Elizabeth. Their independence, strong wills and romanticism reminded me of Bronte and Austin's heroines. And I loved the whole Oscar Wilde writing letters about the cat in France thing!
